Numbers, dates and time
Numbers, dates and clock times are essential for everyday A1 communication.
Grammar rules
- Cardinal: one, two, twenty; ordinal: first, second, third, fourth.
- Dates commonly use ordinal forms when spoken.
- Use at with clock times: at 7:30.
- Use on with days/dates: on Monday, on 5 May.
Examples
- My class starts at nine o’clock.
- Today is 5 May.
- Her birthday is on the third of June.
- The bus leaves at 7:30.
- There are twenty students.
Common mistakes
- Do not confuse thirteen and thirty.
- Use at for time and on for a day/date.
- Check ordinal endings: first, second, third.
