Subject and object pronouns
Subject pronouns do the action; object pronouns receive the action or follow a preposition.
Grammar rules
- Subjects: I, you, he, she, it, we, they.
- Objects: me, you, him, her, it, us, them.
- Use a subject before the verb: She knows me.
- Use an object after a verb/preposition: I called him; Come with us.
Examples
- They live here.
- I know her.
- She called me.
- We saw them.
- Please sit with us.
Common mistakes
- Do not say: Me am ready. → I am ready.
- Do not say: She likes he. → She likes him.
- Do not confuse they/them or we/us.
Revision notes
Before the main verb, ask who does it? → subject pronoun.
After a verb/preposition, ask who receives it? → object pronoun.
