Singular and plural nouns
Nouns can name one item or more than one item.
Grammar rules
- Most nouns add -s: book → books.
- After s, sh, ch, x often add -es: bus → buses, box → boxes.
- Consonant + y often becomes -ies: city → cities.
- Common irregulars include child → children, man → men, woman → women.

- one box / three boxes
- one city / many cities

- These apples are fresh.
Common mistakes
- Do not add apostrophes for ordinary plurals.
- Do not say two childs.
- Match this/that with singular and these/those with plural.
