Present simple
The present simple describes routines, repeated actions, facts and general states.
Grammar rules
- I/you/we/they work; he/she/it works.
- Negative: do not/don’t; does not/doesn’t + base verb.
- Question: Do/Does + subject + base verb?
- Use it for routines, habits and facts.
Examples
- I work every day.
- She works at a school.
- They don’t eat meat.
- Does he live here?
- The sun rises in the east.
Common mistakes
- After does/doesn’t use the base verb: Does she work? not works.
- Remember he/she/it usually takes -s in affirmative sentences.
